Hi I’m Janis, one half of the passion behind Our World for You

Well a huge welcome to our slither of the internet pie & our ever changing glossy journal of memories

Our inspiration for creating this travel blog, was our love of discovering the many wonders of this world and the experiences and the people you meet along the way.

Regardless of whether it is your first steps on to an African desert or the discovery of new restaurant on your doorstep, it really doesn’t matter.

I just enjoy sharing these memories & experiences with people, and I couldn’t think of a better way of letting you all know, than putting pen to paper (metaphorically speaking).

Here’s a little about me...

My early childhood was around South East London & Kent in the UK.  We then moved to the picturesque and tranquil Isle of Wight, off the southern coast, for the latter part of my schooling years and all my teenage years.

One day I ventured from these peaceful clutches to the ‘The Smoke’, or London as some may know it, to see a gig in Wembley stadium.  This is where I met Gary (the other half of Our World for You).

That innocent chance meeting changed the path of my life, I moved back up to Kent and this is when my commuting days to London started.

When I say days I actually mean years, 27 to be exact….over the last few years I have found that the daily adrenaline-charged 3-hour commute, was no longer living up to my early expectations.

Something had to change...

My drive for getting through this robotic procession was planning for the next holiday adventure.

I’m certainly not complaining as our jobs have subsidised some truly stunning luxury trips.

However, it was becoming clear that this wasn’t fulfilling enough, I know it is a cliché but life really is too short. So from my desk job at a Japanese Investment house in the City of London, I decided a change was needed.

I finally built up enough courage to take the plunge and I am now a newbie travel blogger.

It’s the culture as well

A big part of the travel experience for me is local culture and cuisine.

A trip to Jerez opened our taste buds to the vast array of Sherries available. I thought for years it was just a dark sweet substance, that was dusted off every Christmas and offered to my nan in a schooner glass.

It’s so much more, we’d been missing out for years, who knew how wonderful Sherry could be?

What I do really love about travel and new experiences are the memories that continually get evoked months, or even years after. Just scanning through my phone at old holiday snaps constantly makes me smile.

That bad day in the office and my mind would wander back to soaking up the atmosphere at Plaza de Espana in Seville or bouncing around in the back of a safari truck (I have been lucky).

A little more about me...

I love art, particularly street art and if time allows, visiting galleries.

My other likes are stand-up comedy, summer BBQ’s, eating chocolate profiteroles, reading about travel and a peculiar fascination with cemeteries.

I also enjoy watching sport, particularly rugby, motorsport, cycling & tennis.

As you may gather we are slightly older than your average blogger, but that just means we’ve got more to remember. We are young at heart and in our minds, that’s all that matters.

Hopefully you enjoy journeying through the posts as much as I enjoy writing them. If any of these inspire you to find out more, drop me a quick note with any questions and I'll be more than happy to give advice and ideas.
