An idyllic winter break in Cyprus

If your perfect winter sun break is relaxing under palm trees by the poolside of a stunning all-inclusive beachfront resort, then we highly recommend the 5-star Olympic Lagoon Resort Paphos with Jet2holidays.

This beautiful complex surpassed all our expectations, from the moment we stepped through the doors and observed the ocean view beyond until we said our final farewells to the ancient city of Paphos.

This was our first adventure on an all-inclusive holiday with Jet2holidays, so it would be a new and enjoyable experience all around.

Cyprus is located amid the Mediterranean Sea, and Paphos is nestled on the far southwestern tip.

Chilling around the Grand Lobby

The Mediterranean is calling

I loved the Grand Lobby’s views across the outside lagoon pools. Palm trees were swaying in a light breeze and the Mediterranean Sea unfolding far away over the horizon for as a far as the eye can see.

We spent many relaxing moments sitting overlooking the beautiful terrace, enjoying a cocktail or two.

There is plenty of seating throughout the grand lobby and terrace, with elevated areas which were a little more secluded. Comfortable sofas were meticulously placed around the stylish décor, all with attentive waiter service from 10am until 1:30am.

Within the Grand Lobby, you can treat yourself to a visit to the Serenity Health Club and Spa. The tranquil spa offers massages, manicures, facials, and body treatments, all within their own luxury, peaceful treatment rooms.

Paradise with every footstep

Within an oasis of exotic landscapes

The breath-taking pool area at the Olympic Lagoon Resort Paphos truly has the ‘wow’ factor. When you first step out to the lagoon, you feel like you’ve strolled into a tropical paradise with a forest of palm trees piercing the blue Cypriot skies and thoughtful exotic planting at their feet.

We were won over immediately.

The lagoon area has been very thoughtfully designed. As you stroll around the charming landscape, each swimming pool appears to flow into the other.

There are five pools to tempt you, including an adults-only pool, the main lagoon pool with whirlpools, jet-massaging lounges, and waterfalls. You’ll undoubtedly spot the eye-catching Mayan Temple with its integrated waterslides, and there’s also a themed shallow kid’s pool.

The winding paths snake past cascading water features, fish-filled ponds, bobbing Birds of Paradise, all within such tasteful and immaculately kept surroundings.

Amongst the pools are plenty of sun-loungers and parasols to laze beneath and terraces to unwind upon.

There’s undoubtedly ample to keep you entertained; however, if you head to the Blue Lagoon Bar, you can even partake in a game of table tennis or pool.

I appreciate it’s difficult to drag yourself away from the Olympic Lagoon Resort. Still, when you wander down to the crystal blue shore of the Mediterranean Sea, you are greeted with a breath-taking view.

The stunning Paphos coastline

You have to dip your toes in the Med
The hypnotic sound of ocean waves whooshing across the bay will undoubtedly tempt you to take those few steps across the coastline path to the Blue Flag beach beyond. You will struggle to find an unrivalled location of the Olympic Lagoon Resort in Paphos, it is perfect.

It is only about a 30 minutes walk around the bay to Paphos Harbour. All the way, you’ll discover stunning rugged bays and inlets, delicate wildflowers and grasses and overflowing rockpools waiting to be explored.

Ahh, yes, it wouldn’t be the same if I didn’t dip my toes into the Med and enjoy the fresh and crisp ocean waves lapping around my feet. A paddle was as brave as I was going to get, as it was February after all.

I was a little caught out when the wet sand vanished beneath my feet, and the waves crept up behind me.

The Olympic Lagoon Resort accommodation

Our Deluxe Room

During our seven nights break at the Olympic Lagoon Resort, we stayed in a spacious and airy Deluxe Room.

What I especially loved was how bright the room was, particularly with the wide patio doors and balcony. The room had all the essential facilities to make your stay enjoyable and ample storage space.

Planning your day

The large beds were extremely comfortable, and the bathrobes and slippers were a lovely touch. You had your own in-room safety deposit box, kettle, fridge (mini bar), water replenished daily and coffee making facilities.

The only thing I would add is that the room was slightly lacking in wall sockets. Although, Cyprus uses the same 3-pin square socket as the UK, which was handy.

The WiFi speed was 10 to 12 Mbps ‘download’ and 1.5 Mbps ‘upload’.

The room also contained a flat-screen TV, a hairdryer, three full-length mirrors and a desk.

The bathroom was really spacious too, containing two sinks with a bath and shower combined. The hotel also provided a daily room cleaning service, and towel change and the Argan Essence toiletries were also restocked.

Venturing off with Jet2holidays to Paphos

Jet2holidays offers several departure locations around the UK, we selected to hop aboard the Jet2holidays flight from London Stansted Airport. Stansted Airport is easily accessible by car from the M11 motorway, or you can catch the Stansted Express rail link from London Liverpool Street, which departs every 15 minutes.

If you choose the driving option, you can book your car parking through the Jet2 Extras website, and you’ll also get a discount.

Our experience during our Jet2 flights to Cyprus was incredibly smooth and stress-free.
When you hop off your flight at your chosen destination, you’ll have the comfort of knowing that your hotel transfer awaits. Included in your holiday package, you’ll have a generous baggage allowance of 22kg and a hand luggage allowance of 10kg.

If you wish to make the whole in-flight experience even less stressful, you can pre-book your seats and meals for a charge.

Additionally, ensure you download the Jet2holidays app; it is effortless to manage your booking.

The Olympic Lagoon Resort’s eateries

The selection is boundless

The Olympic Lagoon Resort has six restaurants to experience, all offering that little something different from around the world. Some of the restaurants are seasonal; therefore, your options between November to March are slightly limited. Although I must add the range of cuisine is incredible.

The Royal Olympic Restaurant has fare that will suit all tastebuds and dietary requirements. This was our first stay at an all-inclusive resort and the vast array of choice at the Olympic Lagoon’s 5-star eateries were amazing.

Reservations are not required in the Royal Olympic Restaurant. Weather permitting, you’ll be able to enjoy your meals on the outdoor terrace.

The dining at this restaurant is buffet-style with live cooking stations, which really lure you in, and the choices are astounding.

At breakfast, there’s fresh fruit, yoghurts, cereals, breads, pastries, local sweet treats, eggs cooked in so many ways, and of course, your hot selection of breakfast items. However, I loved their omelettes, which were freshly prepared and flipped on the hot plate in front of you, delicious.

A small part of the breakfast selection

If you’re not too full from your hearty breakfast, then I suggest you pop back to the Royal Olympic Restaurant for lunch. Their selection of salads and buffet nourishments are so tempting and incredibly tasty.

The sun was shining, so we had a beautiful view of the Mediterranean Sea while enjoying our lunch.

The evenings at the Royal Olympic are international themed nights, and you’re taken on a culinary journey around the globe. Sit back and let Mexico, Italy, Cyprus, the Med, Catch of the Day, and the far east come to you.

There is waiter service for beverages and designated areas for families and adults-only.

As we were visiting during February, the Seven Orchids Pan Asian Restaurant and the Captain’s Deck Restaurant were closed. Although the Italian restaurant Garibaldi was open and the À la carte menu was a wonderful experience, the quality of the dishes was excellent. You have to pre-book Garibaldi, and it is an adults-only ristorante.

The other in-house restaurant we ate at was the 50s themed Rock’n’Roll Diner. It was great fun with the classic red and white striped seating, the jukebox playing traditional American 50s tunes and a tantalising selection of US specialities, including burgers, ribs, steaks, and of course, delicious milkshakes.

If all that wasn’t enough, then you can visit the Snackeria throughout the daytime to grab a slice of pizza, a cookie, or a filled wrap.

The evening descends across the Paphos skies

Savouring the end of the day
Every waking hour of the day is to be relished at the Olympic Lagoon, and I especially loved taking a stroll in the evening around the lagoon resort and the coastal path. The sun slowly begins to sneak beyond the horizon, and the entire complex is beautifully illuminated.

The Mayan Temple provides an air of mysticism. The now tranquil and serene swimming pools are stylishly flood-lit and transport you to a tropical paradise. The waterfalls cascade through the rock garden and the inflatable flamingos have taken refuge for the evening.

During the balmy evenings of the summer months, the resort’s restaurants and bars throw open their patio doors and terraces, and alfresco dining is truly welcomed, and cocktails are flowing.

The Olympic Lagoon Resort’s refreshments

There’s something for everyone

There are five bars throughout the resort, including two swim-up pool bars. They are the Blue Lagoon Bar and the Serenity Pool Bar, both seasonal and weather permitting. Although you can sit on the terrace of the Blue Lagoon Bar all year round and partake in a bev.

There’s nothing quite like enjoying an ice-cold Aperol Spritz in the Cypriot sunshine.

The Grand Lobby and Terrace offer a full bar service from 10am until 01:30am; here, you can enjoy spirits, beers, wines and cocktails, soft drinks, and hot beverages. Also, non-alcoholic children’s cocktails are available.

Every evening the You & Me Bar and The Xperience Arena open their doors and entertain you all year round with live music.
